Getting Started
In order to make your adverts compatible with Affiliate Customizer, you simply need to enclose anything requiring customizing between (* and *).
For example, if you want affiliates to put their name into your advert, you simply put the following into the advert at the appropriate place:
(*Your Name*)
If your affiliate program is called ABCD and you want affiliates to put their affiliate ID into your advert, you simply put the following into the advert at the appropriate place:
(*Your ABCD ID*)
When your affiliates open the file containing your advert or paste the advert from the Windows Clipboard, Affiliate Customizer will find all the items enclosed between (* .. *) and present them to the affiliate in a simple form.
If you include (*Your Name*) and (*Your PBP ID*) in your advert, the form will ask for:
Your Name
Your PBP ID
When the affiliate enters values for these, they will be automatically substituted for (*Your Name*) and (*Your PBP ID*).
If (*Your Name*) or (*Your PBP ID*) are used more than once in the advert, they will only be included in the form once and all instances will be replaced automatically.
If the affiliate customizes another advert containing (*Your Name*) or (*Your PBP ID*), the values entered last time will be entered into the form automatically.
You are not restricted to customizing just name and affiliate ID. You can include anything at all. Any text you include between (* and *) will be shown in the form as the prompt and the value the affiliate enters will be automatically substituted.
Commonly used items include:
(*Your Name*)
(*Your Email Address*)
(*Your Web Site*)
(*Your Address*)
(*Your Phone Number*)
(*Your Clickbank ID*) (if you use the popular Clickbank affiliate service)
(*Your XXXX ID*) (where XXXX is the name of your affiliate program)
(*Your XXXX Link*) (where XXXX is the name of your affiliate program)
You can however request anything you want by simply including suitable text between (* and *).
Note that the maximum number of different items in any advert should not exceed 6 and the text between (* and *) should not exceed 20 characters.
It is recommended that you test your new adverts using Affiliate Customizer before releasing them to your affiliates. Note that if you are using files, the update button overwrites the original file, so make sure you have a copy of your advert file before testing.
To help you further, there should be some example advert files included in the examples.zip file.
