One way your computer is identified on the Internet is through its IP address. IP stands for Internet protocol. You will find that every computer that logs onto the Internet has a different identifying number. This number is unique to that computer only. The IP address that your computer uses is actually in binary code, but the IP address is in a dotted decimal code. The IP address is made up of four numbers called octets. The octet can be anywhere from one to 255. By monitoring the computers in this manner, the IP address, computers from the same network can be grouped together, or identified as being from the same network.

It is the IP address that the Internet sees every time you log on to the Web. This is the information that gets collected by the different web sites as you visit them. Once your IP address has been collected, that particular site will know every time that you are on the Internet. The IP address scam is almost as bad as Spam. What this does is sending little messages randomly to different computers that are stored in its files. Spam comes in more than just your emails. The sort of advertising being done by these sites when they target an IP address is considered spam. The reason it is considered spam is because it does not have to be a site you have actually visited. IP addresses can be generated by any computer. It is simply a matter of generating four sets of numbers and setting them in a decimal pattern. The ad software then generates a code to send this information to that address. The software does not know who is getting the message or even if they are receiving it, just that it is being sent. You did not ask for this solicitation nor did you ask for information on the subjects being advertised. This is not only used to advertise adult content.
