Yes there will be some people who will gravitate to the newcomer, but as a rule customers may like the red hots at one store, but like the butterfingers from the other, and something else at the store down the road. So the Internet is the way they shop. So buying one item from your website and another item from your competitor's website is easier and cheaper than driving to the store for one item and down the road a mile to get the second item. Plus you don't have the traffic to deal with on the Internet and no lines to wait in. You can take care of more than one customer at a time. Keep your shipping cost as low as you can so the customer doesn't feel the need to buy both items from one location to save on shipping both item separately.

So if you are only consider adding one or two links, in exchange for them listing your link. Make them a better deal or get retailer with products to go hand-in-hand with the products you sell, but you don't sell the same products. This will benefit the customer. When you benefit the customer, you will have repeat business and they will appreciate what you do for them.
